Remote P-Drive

Introduction

Connecting to the Physics & Astronomy P-Drive remotely will provide users access to their files and the ability to transfer files to and from Astronomy Linux computers.

Secure WebDAV

Nautilus

  • On the top menu in Gnome, select Places --> Connect to Server...

  • An Connect to Server box will appear.

  • Click the Service type dropdown box and select Secure WebDAV (HTTPS).
  • Enter pdrive.byu.edu in the Server field.
  • Enter a physics account username in the Folder field (tma in this example).
  • Enter the same physics account username in the User Name field (tma in this example).
  • Type a name to associate with the connection (i.e. P-Drive) in the Name to use for connection field.
  • Click Connect.

  • Look at the desktop, there should be an icon.

  • Double Click on the icon.
  • An Authentication Required box will appear.
  • Enter the associated password for the username in the Password field.
  • Check the box to remember the password for the session.

  • The user now has access to their U-Drive files.

  • The icon will remain on the desktop after the user logs out and logs back in later.
  • If the user has a desire to remove the icon, right click on the icon and select Unmount Volume

Konqueror

  • Open up the Konqueror web browser from the menu: Applications --> Internet --> Konqueror.

  • In the Location box, type: webdavs://pdrive.byu.edu/tma, where tma is replaced with a physics username.
  • Press Enter on the keyboard.

  • An Authorization Dialog box will appear.
  • Enter a physics account username in the Username field.
  • Enter the associated password for the username in the Password field.

  • The user now has access to their U-Drive files.

FTP Client

With more secure ways to access the P-Drive now available, FTP access to the P-Drive is now disabled.
