They are mighty, bold, great,
Fiery, glowing, strong.
They are scorching, hot, bright,
Daring, forever long.
Small, gentle, twinkling,
Cool and quiet are they;
Soft dots, unwavering --
Night's reminders of day.
They are gaseous, large, huge,
Burning whatever's near.
They can kill, destroy, purge,
Broiling year to year.
Guides, guards, or sentinels,
Mute, they watch o'er us here.
Firm, constant, nightengales,
Life and light bring they here.
They give life -- or death, can
Blind or can show the way.
They have power -- good, bad --
Making us day to day
In their stardust bright. They're
Suns of the universe
And so we are their sons --
Living below, on Earth.
