Variable Star Database History
The history of the database begins in about 1995 with the first web pages being designed by Eric Hintz, with help from Mike Joner.
It began as a way to store finder charts and information sheets in case these were forgotten on the way to an observing run.
However, it was realized that much more could with a database than just store finders. We envisioned a way to optimize our
observing schedule, reporting observations without paying the page charges, and sort through the vast amount of data that has
been collected.
From 1999 to 2000, an undergraduate / graduate student, Phil Warner, did a lot of great programming to improve the database
and are pleased with the progress that was made.
Currently, there is no active development of the database. However it is still a useful tool for BYU students and
available for other observers to use.
