16 Inch Telescope

The 16" telescope is used for student and faculty research as well as for the Physics 329 and Physics 529 classes.

Telescope Installation

This telescope is computer controlled and has a CCD camera system to show faint and low surface brightness objects.

M104

Here is M104, The Sombrero Galaxy. This is an edge on view of a spiral galaxy.

The Moon

Here is an image of part of our moon. Notice the craters and shadows.

M13

This is an image of M13, a globular cluster found in the constellation Lyra. There are approximately 100,000 stars in this cluster.

Cherrio

This is the Ring Nebula. It is the remains of a star that let go of its outer layers. In the center is the white dwarf remnant. This is sometimes referred to as the space cheerio.

M51

This is M51, the Whirlpool Galaxy. It is believed the smaller galaxy is colliding with the larger. Notice the spiral arms and the bright nucleus.
